Making Electric Vehicle Travel work for Highway Use

First, See:
Making Cities Electric Vehicle Friendly

Once a Person has driven an electric Vehicle, and likes it, they seek to find more places they can go with it, and cross country travel becomes the next instinct to test.

Of course, presently today, most Electric Vehicle, are designed for Regular Commuting, so the first thing to look at is how to make ALL Commuting work for Electric Vehicles!

Suggested Installation Goals for Level 3 DC Quick Chargers for Commuting between Cities:

Start with a first Goal of at least one (1), and potentially, Two (2), in-between each of the most travelled commuter hubs and the central city. For Example: Considering Toronto as the Central City, Commuter Hubs extending out approximately 100 km's away include, for example:

  1. To the North: Barrie, Innisfil, Bradford, Schomberg, King City, Vaughan, Thornhill.
  2. To the North East: Sutton, Georgina, Mt. Albert, Newmarket, Aurora, Gormley, Richmond Hill, Markham.
  3. To the East: Newcastle, Bowmanville, Courtice, Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, Pickering, West Rouge, Scarborough.
  4. To the South West: Grimsby, Stoney Creek, Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, Port Credit, Etobicoke. Also Brantford, Brant, Ancaster.
  5. To the West, (401): Kitchener, Preston, Cambridge, Aberfoyle, Campbellville, Milton, Hornby, Mississauga.
  6. To the West (Hwy #7): Guelph, Rockwood, Halton Hills, Georgetown, Norval, Brampton / Bramalea.
  7. To the North West: Sherburne, Orangeville, Caledon, Inglewood, Cheltenham, Brampton.

This shows that 7 routes lead Commuters into the Toronto Core, and should be considered as 7 Leading Partner Teams in the Move to have Electric Vehicles on our roads replacing Internal Combustion engine vehicles in the steps toward Clean and Sustainable Transportation.

Each Partner Team consists of a number or relevant Cities, Towns, and Villages, each one just as important as the other in the flow of Electric Vehicle Traffic into Toronto, and Electric Vehicle Traffic From Toronto to these routes.

Once the team is developed, then the first step is to determine which location will lead the way with the first Level 3 DC Quick Charger Installation, and if that town is best suited for use by Electric Vehicles on their Commute route to, in this case - Toronto.

Each Location with Level 3 DC Quick Charging Should have co-located at least 2, Level 2 (240V) Chargers, with at least one of them a High Power Charging Station (over 60 Amp up to 100 Amp), to support Vehicles that can not use the DC Quick Charger, but can use a high powered AC Level 2 Charging Station for Supplying its Charge.

Once a Primary Commuting is well served - it would be wise to continue the plan and Extend the Service to Full Cross Province Potential.

To be Continued.
